Concord Classroom Highlights: What's going on in Mrs. B's PreK Class?

December 6, 2024

Mrs. Bourgeois, or Mrs. B to her students, enthusiastically engages her PreK class in activities aligned with the Vermont Early Learning Standards, currently focusing on Element 2: Family and Community, Civics, Government, and Society.

What are some goals relating to the learning targets that you plan to focus on with your students this year?

The goal for this learning target is to create a vibrant learning environment where young learners explore the importance of families, community roles, and basic concepts of civics. Through interactive storytelling, collaborative games, and group discussions, Mrs. B fosters a sense of belonging and helps children understand their place within their community.

What outcomes are you hoping to achieve with your students?

  • Students have the skills to be able to identify the job of each branch of the military (the Army protects land, the Navy protects sea, the Coast Guard protects waterways, the Air Force protects air, and the Marines protect land, sea, and air).
  • Students will be able to verbally state what each branch protects.
  • Students will be able to state the meaning of Veterans Day is to thank those who served in protecting the USA and keeping us safe.
  • Students will be able to verbally state that families keep you safe at home, teachers keep you safe at school, and military service personnel keep everyone safe.

Additional Classroom Updates:

Students invited families and Veterans to a culminating celebration in the classroom on Monday, November 11th. We called this "Cookies for Veterans". Students made cookies, thank you cards, and poppies. We also created a thank you banner that they presented during the celebration to thank Veterans for their service.
