Concord School Celebrates the Life of Jimmy Carter

January 13, 2025

Preschool Classroom Activities:

Preschoolers were quiet for the moment of silence. We talked about how a president is in charge of the United States, like Mrs. Brown is in charge of Concord School and families are in charge of preschoolers at home. Some were able to make the connection.

Kindergarten Classroom Activities:

On Thursday, January 9th the Concord Kindergarten students celebrated the life of Jimmy Carter observing a moment of silence and then later learning many facts about his life. They learned about his wife Rosalynn and all of the kind things they did together to make their community a better place. Kindergarten learned what a Nobel Prize is as well as what a day of mourning is.

We colored patriotic hearts in honor of Jimmy Carter's life and all he did for America.

Middle School Lessons & Classroom Activities:

Middle Humanities:

Brown/Snyder Advisory:

We used slide #6 today from this slide set today to recognize Jimmy Carter. We read the presidential proclamation, reviewed the vocab that he used in the video, then watched the video and observed the moment of silence.

Burt/Tobin Advisory:

We watched 2 CBS Sunday morning videos about President Carter. One was an overview of his life and the other was about his connection to music. We also discussed the ceremony of the process with him traveling from GA to DC and back and that it was an opportunity to show respect in the same way a moment of silence shows respect. We finished in time for the moment of silence. All the students participated in the advisory.

Glenn/Huntington Advisory:

We started Advisory off with a share of what each kid likes about living in America, which was a nice way to connect each kid personally with the Jimmy Carter content. We watched the 3 videos with a very short introduction to each. There was just enough time to observe the moment of silence.

Guilmette/Regan Advisory:

We watched a couple videos that had been shared among the teachers to discuss with students a little about Jimmy Carter. The significance that he played in scenic byways and natural parks, and why we were having the national day of mourning.
