Impact of KESD ESTIMATED Monthly Tax Rate Increase FY26 to FY27

February 4, 2026

The Estimated Monthly Tax Rate Increases by town are determined based on the school district’s budgetary needs, projected expenditures, and available funding sources. School boards develop annual budgets that account for costs such as staff salaries and benefits such as health insurance, facility maintenance, transportation, and special programs. Changes in property assessments, enrollment numbers, and state funding allocations can all impact tax rate adjustments. KESD taxpayers paid 49% of the FY26 budget while the remaining 51% was funded by other towns across VT. Once the annual tax rate is established, officials estimate the monthly impact for homeowners by calculating the difference in yearly taxes under the new rate and dividing it by 12, providing a clearer picture of the additional monthly cost for residents.

These ESTIMATED Tax Rates are based on the utilization of one time general fund transfer of revenue in the amount of $75M (to buy down tax rates) as indicated by the Governor on multiple occasions. If said general fund transfer does not occur, please email info@kingdomeast.org for updated ESTIMATED Tax Rates.
