Kingdom East School District Awarded $20,000 Grant to Support Winter Activities Programs
October 19, 2026
LYNDONVILLE, VT — Kingdom East School District (KESD) has been awarded $20,000 from the Moriah Wilson Foundation to support its Winter Activities programs for students in grades K-8. The grant will help ensure that students can participate in skiing and snowboarding during the 2026-2027 winter season, regardless of their families’ financial circumstances.
The funding will support scholarships for students in KESD schools, allowing them to participate in six weeks of skiing and snowboarding at Burke Mountain from January through March 2027. Grant funds will help cover lift passes, lessons, equipment rentals, and time on the mountain, removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent students from participating.
The Winter Activities program is part of KESD’s Experiential Learning initiative, which promotes student wellness through outdoor recreation, physical activity, and meaningful connections with peers and teachers. Across the district’s seven schools, students have opportunities to explore activities such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, sledding, swimming, and rock climbing.
The Winter Activities program gives students the opportunity to try something new, develop skills, and build confidence while connecting with their classmates and teachers. The goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
The program has demonstrated positive results for students. In a Winter 2025-2026 survey, more than 96% of participating students reported enjoying their winter activity, 91% said they felt they had improved their skills, and more than 75% reported building stronger relationships with teachers and other students.
The Moriah Wilson Foundation’s support will help KESD continue offering these opportunities to students. KESD also works with local partners, including Burke Mountain and Kingdom Kids, to make skiing and snowboarding more accessible to students and families.
Through its Experiential Learning program, KESD is committed to supporting students’ physical, social, and emotional well-being while helping them build skills and discover activities they can enjoy throughout their lives.
