Lyndon Town School Updated Guidelines for P.E.

August 29, 2023

Welcome Back LTS Families,

We are looking forward to the start of a new school year! With the start of the new school year, the P.E. the department will be introducing new expectations, as well as reinforcing expectations from years passed. We would love your support with enforcing these with your child before they leave the house.

The gymnasium floors were redone over the summer. Because of this we are requiring students to wear athletic sneakers for PE. These do not include boots, sandals, Crocs, HeyDudes, etc.  as they can cause injury to oneself or others, or leave scuff marks, ruining our floor.

Starting in September, we will be reserving our spare sneakers for those who truly need them due to our minimal supply. If you would like to donate a pair of sneakers, they are greatly appreciated! If a student does not bring a pair of sneakers to P.E. class they will need to sit out for the duration of the class, which can result in a lower grade. All students in grades 5-8 have been given a locker and an opportunity to rent a lock, for $3.00. They are more than welcome to store their pair of sneakers in a locker so they do not have to remember to bring them every day.

A new expectation we will be enforcing this year is requiring all students in grades 5-8 to change for P.E. Middle school has P.E. in the morning and most students then spend the rest of the day in the clothes they wore to class. This can cause their clothes to start smelling by the end of the day. Having a change of clothes and an extra deodorant stick in the provided locker can help limit this issue. We are aware some students may be uncomfortable changing in a locker room accompanied by other students of the same gender. For this, we offer a private changing area, as well as an individual bathroom in each of the locker rooms for students. If neither of these work, we can figure out another plan that can accommodate the needs of said student.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to the Physical Education department.
