Kingdom East School District Schools Honor Veterans Through Student Activities and Community Celebrations
November 5, 2026
LYNDONVILLE, VT – Veterans Day is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and recognize the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Their commitment to protecting our freedoms has helped shape our country and our communities, and their service deserves our gratitude and respect.
Across the Kingdom East School District (KESD), students and staff are finding meaningful ways to express their gratitude. Through handwritten letters, classroom conversations, special meals, assemblies, and opportunities to hear directly from those who have served, each school is creating opportunities for students to recognize veterans and learn more about their service.
Burke Town School students are working with VT Supports to bring holiday cheer to military members serving away from home. Students will create holiday-themed greeting cards to send to service members who will be on duty during the holiday season. VT Supports will also include the cards with care packages sent to military personnel, giving students an opportunity to share messages of encouragement and appreciation with those serving our country.
Concord School will welcome a veteran to speak during its Community Meeting. In preparation, students in advisories are developing questions to ask the guest, creating an opportunity to learn about military service and hear firsthand experiences.
Lunenburg School will host a Veterans Day Breakfast, with fifth-grade students helping serve the meal, followed by an assembly at the Common. During the assembly, students will read poems and sing in recognition of veterans. Additionally, students in grades 3–5 are writing letters to veterans that will be delivered to local VFW posts and American Legions.
Lyndon Town School will collect items for Vermont Support, with each classroom participating in the collection. Classrooms and grade levels will also have opportunities to invite veterans into their classrooms for conversations, questions and answers, and learning about their experiences.
Millers Run School will hold an afternoon assembly, open to the public, and invite community veterans to attend. The assembly will give students and staff an opportunity to recognize local veterans and thank them for their service.
Newark Street School will host a special community lunch on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, at 11:30 a.m. The lunch will honor local veterans while also recognizing the Newark E-Z Riders Snowmobile Club for its generous work refurbishing the school's flagpole. The event provides an opportunity for students and community members to come together in appreciation of those who have served and those who support the school.
"Veterans Day reminds us that the strong community, daily activities, and traditions we cherish at Newark Street School are made possible by the dedication of those who have served our nation. We look forward to bringing our students and neighbors together to personally thank our local veterans, as well as recognize the Newark E-Z Riders for their incredible support in refurbishing our flagpole," said Newark Street School Principal, Chad Simpson.
Sutton School will host a Veterans Day lunch, with veterans invited to eat free of charge. The Student Council will also organize a brief ceremony during one of the final lunch periods. Veterans attending will be recognized and invited to share information about themselves and their experiences with students.
“At Sutton School, we believe it is important to teach our students the value of service, sacrifice, and gratitude. Our Veterans Day ceremony gives us an opportunity to come together as a school community, hear from local veterans, recognize their service, and personally thank them for their commitment to our country.
This day holds special meaning for me, as my father, brother, and sister have all served in the military. I am incredibly proud to come from a military family and have a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who serve and the families who support them. We are grateful to the veterans who have served, to those who continue to serve, and to the families who stand behind them. We owe them our sincere thanks and respect, not just on Veterans Day, but every day,” said Sutton School Principal, Rachel Robillard.
Kingdom East Interim Superintendent Jennifer Botzojorns shared her appreciation for the veterans in the district and the importance of helping students understand the meaning of Veterans Day.
"We appreciate the many individuals in our schools and community who have served in the military. Each school is able to celebrate veterans in a unique way. We want all our young people to understand, value, and appreciate all those who served to protect our freedom," said Botzojorns.
Kingdom East School District extends its sincere appreciation to all veterans for their service, sacrifice, and commitment. Thank you to the veterans who have served our country and to the community members who continue to support our students and schools.
