December 16, 2020

None of us could have predicted a year ago the challenges of the current pandemic. We are so proud of our children, families, teachers and community for being able to successfully attend school and to educate our children in person at Miller’s Run since September. This has made a difference in the learning and developmental growth of our children. You have shown how resilient, adaptable and dependable you all are!

We have heard from many of our community that families will need to gather with multiple households (family) and dependents over the Winter Holiday Break. As per the directive from the governor (link here), the change in definitions of households and the requirement to quarantine, we are unable to safely open Miller’s Run School for in person instruction in early January. When we return from December break, we will pivot to remote learning for two weeks, from January 4th to January 15th. The quarantine period in early January will allow all families, children, faculty and staff to return safely to school when they return to in person instruction on Tuesday, January 19. (Friday, January 15th was previously scheduled for staff Professional Development and Monday, January 18th is MLK, Jr. Day–no school.)

Between today and December 23rd, we will be in communication about the remote learning schedule and meals. Free meals will continue and details will be shared before December 23rd. Our team has worked to finalize remote learning plans and these will be communicated to families before we leave for the Winter Holiday Break on December 23 and appropriate technology devices will be sent home.

Our remote learning plans can be found at any time on the school website under “REMOTE LEARNING PLANS”.

I can not thank you enough for your continued dedication, optimism and perseverance since August (and March of last year)!

Sincerely,

Patrick Ham, Miller’s Run School Principal
Jennifer Botzojorns, Superintendent of Schools
